Happy Birthday, Lucy!
We enjoyed a birthday celebration for Lucy and were treated to Red Velvet cake balls for a birthday snack. Yum! It's fun to be 5!
Halloween Fun
Our Halloween activities and projects centered around the fun of dress-up, make-believe, and just a "little spooky"! We read a Halloween classic, Humbug Witch by Lorna Balian, which is about a little witch who can't get anything right - her broomstick won't fly, potions don't work, and magic words do nothing. In the end, we learned that the little witch was really just a little girl playing dress-up. We made a Humbug Witch mask that added to our make-believe in the house corner. Mixing up "potions" made from all sorts of things was quite popular!
JK characters were full of smiles as they paraded through the halls and gyms for the whole school to see their Halloween costumes. It was fun to be announced and wave to the crowd of students and parents. Back in the library, the children watched their teachers perform a funny version of the story, Room on the Broom. So sorry I missed this photo, but you can ask your child what character Mrs. Jeffers was in the play. We all joined the sing-along to favorite Halloween songs we had learned during the week. I still can't get the tune to "Counting Creatures" out of my head! I'm sure your JK child can sing you that one.
Halloween Party
We were happy to get back to our room for some Halloween treats, refreshments, and a little rest after that long parade and all the singing. We thank all the families who added to our Halloween decorations and snack! Finally we were off to the many Halloween stations around the room. We had fun making spiders, Pumpkin lanterns, Jack-o-Lanterns, and a pattern necklace as part of the fun. We appreciate the many parents who helped at the stations and helped make our morning a delight, thanks! Then it was off with our costumes and outside to enjoy the beautiful weather - what a nice way to end a festive holiday! Have fun Trick-or-Treating this weekend!
