Week of April 29th

Reduce, Recycle, and our favorite - Reuse!
We continued our Earth Day enthusiasm with a trip to the recycling room.  The children wanted to reuse items to make their own artwork.  Each child chose items that were interesting to use in a sculpture.  Since it is hard to attach these different materials, we simply stacked, built, and changed the items to make different sculpture versions each day.  We also made up a story about our sculpture and dictated the words to Mrs. Jeffers.  Since we could not keep the sculpture very easily, we took photographs to remember our interesting Earth Day creations!

Spring Hike with Mrs. Ziegelbauer
We headed off to the woods on Tuesday for a muddy but interesting Spring Hike.  After our cool and rainy start to spring, we had little luck finding the typical signs of spring.  Now with a few dryer and warmer days, we spotted new things growing and signs of animals out in the woods.  We took our time to compare what we saw to the seasons that came before, and we asked Mrs. Z to explain some of the new things that we discovered - like shelf fungus, new tracks, and rabbit fur.  We each got a collection bag to find certain items on a nature treasure hunt.  After the hike, we compared our treasures and asked, "I wonder" questions about our discoveries.  Adding some of our treasures to the Earth Day weaving and snacking outside was the perfect end to our morning's adventures.

It's a Surprise!
The end of our week was spent planning for our upcoming Mother's Day celebration.  We were very busy, but we can't give details or we will spoil the surprises - you will have to wait until Friday!
