Week of Nov. 26th

Happy Birthday, Meredith!
What could be better than a birthday over Thanksgiving?  How about two days in a row of being Special Helper?  We hope you had a fun day celebrating at school.  We all enjoyed the very blue and very pink cupcakes - delish!
Wearing Our Coats Inside?
Yes, those were the directions as we made the invitations for our Holiday Sing!  We are trying to "draw what we see", and so we had a long mirror to see what we look like in our snow clothes. It was funny to do, but the pictures turned out very clearly - wait until your special invitation comes home in next week's Friday Folder!  Check the calendar...do you have Wednesday, December 19th at 9:30 am penciled in for our extraordinary preprimary concert and after party?  Hope so - you won't want to be left "out in the cold!"

Deciduous and Coniferous Trees
We headed outside to go explore under the tree branches of our favorite pine, or should we say "coniferous", trees.  We noticed the pine needles, cones, and sticky sap while we compared these green trees to the bare deciduous trees nearby.  We also discovered the shape of these two kinds of trees - little on top or little on the bottom!  After some exploring and treasure collecting, we drew like scientists to capture the details of one of the trees in our science notebooks.  In our classroom, we used pine boughs and pinecones to paint, and we will create a winter forest in our block area next week.

p.s.  Does anyone still have Trick-or-Treat candy left?  You know, the leftover kinds of candy that no one will ever eat!   We could use it at school (not for eating) for a math game and art project.  Please do not buy any - I just thought I would check to see if anyone has some hidden away after the children  had too much sugar on Halloween.

Looks like another great week! Thanks for all the information and for sending home the practice sheets. They are very helpful!
Sorry, no candy left in our house. It never lasts long!
