The Mitten retold by JK
This week we did a literary comparison of the classic tale, The Mitten. We began with our JK author, Jan Brett, and then we read many other stories throughout the week. We even discovered that although one of the stories was called The Old Man's Mitten, the illustrator drew a glove! Now that was some detective work to notice a glove! We had the most fun picking out our own animal to draw, paint, and put into the JK mitten story. We made a "story stick" with the same characters and decorated a felt mitten to take home to retell the story in our own words. We are practicing being descriptive and making the story interesting.
Dressing for the Winter Weather 17, 13, 11...Yes, the first day we dressed for outside play on the playground, it took our class seventeen minutes to get ready. We are really trying to be independent, and we are working on pulling on boots, straightening straps, and zipping jackets. We also have to remember the order to put things on - mittens last! Luckily, with help and encouragement, our time was down to eleven minutes by the end of the week, and we have many members signed in on the "Zipping Chart" in our locker room. Keep practicing!
Winter Fun
After the good effort to get dressed in outdoor gear, we finally got to enjoy the last bit of snow left on our playground. We are again puzzled with the rain and frustrated with the melting, so we hope cutting snowflakes indoors will help the snowflakes fall once again!
Happy Weekend,
Mrs. Jeffers
