Happy New Year and Pancakes!
Welcome back everyone! When we left JK last month we were learning about the different traditions celebrated in our JK families. So to celebrate 2013, we started by learning some New Year's traditions from other countries. We learned that in Greece they eat twelve grapes - one for each month of good luck, and in Puerto Rico the children throw buckets of water out the window! That one sounded fun but chilly in Wisconsin. Instead we followed the French tradition of eating pancakes for good luck on New Year's morning - yum! While the pancakes cooked, we shared stories from our Winter Break to journal about back in the classroom. We also made wishing stars for the New Year and pledged to learn new things, try hard, be kind friends, and much more.
Happy Birthday, Ryley!
We enjoyed a festive birthday celebration in honor of Ryley's 5th Birthday which was over Winter Break. We all appreciated the delicious colorful cupcakes too. We hope you had a fun day, Ryley!
Reconnecting with Friends
The children were happy to be back together and found many interesting things to keep them busy during our short week. We have lots of new learning ahead including our big Snowfriend building, Learning Centers, Morning Message Tubes, and much more!
Now that the snow has arrived, we try to end our mornings and afternoons with outside play. As you can imagine, it is an added challenge for the children to get all of their snow clothes on. To simplify things, those children heading home at 11:10 and at 3:10, will wear their snow clothes home. We'll have more time to play if children don't have to change to go home, and wet outside clothes will have a chance to dry and be ready for the next day's play. Thank you for your help as we make the most of our time with the children. And thank you for helping your child be sure to have these snow clothes back at school each morning. At home, please support your child as he/she learns to dress in winter gear including pulling on snowpants and boots, attempting to zip, and getting on mittens. We can instill that "can do" attitude with the right amount of "give it a try" balanced with help when needed - oh, and a little extra time to get anywhere we have to go!
Happy 2013!
