After our wonderful science play in the marble area, we discussed and demonstrated how things that are not alive move from one place to another - push, pull, drop, roll...oh so many ways! We each designed an experiment to compare how two items would move when either pushed or dropped - which would move further or which would move faster? With a partner to record the results, we conducted the experiments, gathered the data, and came up with a conclusion. It was great to see the children use information from our math lessons about geometric shapes and weight to inform their conclusions - "The more 'roundness' the faster it rolls," or "The marble made of glass weighs more than the paper (made of paper stuff) so it drops faster!" With a "Snow Day" and "Dr. Seuss Day" this week, we did not begin Transportation, but I think these experiments will be a great springboard for our next study!
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss
It was a fun and festive Friday when we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday! To start the day, we saw Green Eggs and Ham in Espanol and read The Cat in the Hat in our classroom. We then had stations around the room to play learning games, read, and create a "Cat in the Hat" snack! Eating the red and white striped parfaits was a delicious end to the morning!
Enjoy the sunny weekend,
Mrs. Jeffers
