It was good to be back at school this week, and from the stories being told, it seems as if everyone had a wonderful time over Spring Break. The children were glad to see their friends and excited to tell about their adventures. Since everyone had news to share, we wrote a journal entry about something fun we did during break, and then we turned the statement into a question. We asked our friends the question (like... "Did you see your Grandma?"), and then recorded the yes/no answers. That also gave us an opportunity to tell more about our fun and hear about our friends' stories too.
Taking Flight
We continued with our topic of transportation this week and took to the air. We had some new building materials out that just happened to "take flight" as well. We tried to determine what properties kept the corrugated pieces in the air for the longest time - we discovered that the pieces without holes worked the best and decided that is why airplane wings are also solid (good thing). We made airplanes for our "Transportation City" and completed the destinations inside our city box too.
JK Airlines
The children had so much fun before break building our train that we decided to build a plane in the big block area. They had lots of creative ideas to include and had a wonderful time collecting all the materials needed and building the control tower, ticket area, and plane. They had even more fun taking on different roles as they played - pilot, server, passenger, air traffic controller. We even had some crash landings complete with life vests and rescue raft. We hope we will have less turbulence on our flights next week.
Although our weather does not feel quite like Spring yet, we hope to get outdoors as much as possible in the weeks to come as we study Spring changes and focus on taking care of the Earth. How is that can collection coming?
Enjoy your weekend,
Mrs. Jeffers
