Week of May 13th

We're Going to the Zoo, Zoo, Zoo...
What a fun way to wrap up our JK year together with a a lively and engaging study of zoo animals!  The children loved bringing their own animals from home to sort, count, and add to our zoo graphing.  We discovered over 7 different ways to sort the animals, and then we enjoyed building habitats and zoos for the different types of animals!  How would you like to visit a zoo that didn't group the animals by animal type, but instead, it grouped the animals by color?  We had lively discussions about how that would or would not work out!  We read zoo stories, sang animal songs, and played a fun freeze tag game where we were frozen like a giraffe, elephant, or snake - another animal had to climb over, under, or through to set you free!  We will continue our study next week as we prepare for our zoo field trip!

A Jr. Zookeeper
We read a great story, Z is for Zookeeper, to discover all the things a zookeeper must know about taking care of the zoo animals and keeping them healthy and safe.  We divided into zookeeper groups to study more about our sponsored animals, the giraffe, elephant, and zebra.  We made zookeeper clipboards so that we can record information as we do research next week.  We also painted uniforms because we want to "report" that information in some way - we have to look official!

Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Jeffers
