Week of May 20th

Animal Research
This week our Zookeeper Groups got busy learning information they would need to know in order to care for their animal - the giraffe, zebra, or elephant.  We first did "bookmark" research where we looked at pictures and titles to find the information on each bookmark - babies, food, habitat, or something interesting.  We were quite fascinated looking carefully for the information that we needed.
Zookeeper Notebooks
Meredith came to help us with our research, and she or Mrs. Jeffers read us the pages that we had bookmarked.  We listened to the facts and decided which was an important idea to record on our clipboards.  We used words and pictures to tell what we learned about each category.  It was hard not to tell the other groups what we learned especially when we found something fascinating.
Zookeeper Reports
After researching, it was time to share what we had learned with the other groups.  We each got to report on one topic, and then we told about the fact that we found most interesting about our animal.  The audience got to ask more questions, and we had to answer or give more information.  A great job was done by all, and now we're ready to head to the zoo to see the animals up close.  We hope we get a chance to ask the real zookeepers some questions that we still have!
Animal Puppets
Now that we are such animal experts, we wanted to have a giraffe, zebra, or elephant of our own.  We made different versions of sock puppets so that we can do a puppet show to tell all the important animal information that we have learned!  Oh, they are pretty cute to just play with too!

Zoo Field Trip
A bright and beautiful day awaited us at the zoo on Friday, and we couldn't have asked for more delightful weather.  Our groups were eager to view the animals, find different animal coverings, and sort the animals by spots, stripes, and solids!  We thank our parent chaperones for helping us learn more about animals and tour the zoo.  I will post the zoo photos when I have them all collected from the groups.

Have a wonderful long weekend together, and I will see you all back on Tuesday!
